The Council of Deans of Graduate Schools, Region 10 (CDGS-X), was organized towards the end of the 1990s upon the initiative of Dr Glory S. Magdale, as CHED 10 Regional Director, mainly to serve as conduit of information from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) national and regional offices. It also served as an avenue where regulatory pronouncements were discussed and clarified.

            The objectives of CDGS-X have expanded over the years. In general, the Council aims to assist the graduate schools in the region in matters of educational regulations, research, quality improvement, and, faculty and student competence. It seeks to promote unity of intention, synchrony of action and better coordination with regulatory bodies.


            In particular, CDGS aims to:

  • Share best practices on review of research papers on the matter of ethics and anti-plagiarism
  • Share expertise for trainings and consultations
  • Set up quality standards for graduate education beyond regulatory requirements
  • Serve as conduit of CHED information dissemination and as a facility for providing CHED with ground-level information
  • Provide avenue for exchange of ideas and information for the improvement of graduate education and the region through research conferences
  • Provide graduate faculty and students with opportunities for research collaboration, particularly to meet the CHED mandate for graduate schools
  • Serve as venue for continuing professional development
  • Build linkages with graduate schools outside the region`
